Algeria has important historic Roman remains such as Tipaza  a Roman town by the sea, Timegad , Numidian tombs and many other historic locations. It has an attractive caostline and in the South in Djanet there are the Tassili Hoggar mountains and the historic ancient rock paintings.  Tamanrasset has mountains and desert walking accompanjied by 4X4 station wagons, Mehari camel treks and adventure tourislm are some of the attractions. The Oasis town of Timimoun with its fougara water system and ancient sudanese architecture. Ghardia and Tlemcen are beautifull ancient cities.

The problem up till now is that Algeria has been largely closed for security reasons. The valleys of Kabilya are a no go area. Algeria has relied on increasing tourism by Algerian expatriates returning for visits to the homeland and this has been profitable. There have also been tourists from the former eastern europe but until the terrorism problem is solved once and for all international tourism cannot take place.

However 2030 is some way off and should be far enough ahead to be the current  economic downturn. As Algeria's hydrocarbons wealth diminishes newsources of income need to be found and tourism is anobvious choice. Algeria certainly has many opportunities for  international tourism development once the conditions are right. As Algeria is a vast country more airports will be a requirement as well as new hotels.

The master plan for tourism development in 2030  is based on five essential dynamics of tourism development, such as the value of the destination Algeria, improving the quality of tourist services, the promotion of partnership between all operators and stakeholders, increased funding and the creation of new tourist poles of excellence. The national land scheme SNAT 2030 will make land available for development.
