Refuting Kerry Kennedy’s account in the Huffington Post.

NAU - publié le Friday, August 31st à 02:10 modifié le Friday, August 31st - 03:02

In the Daily Caller Richard Miniter, New York Times best selling author and columnist for Forbes, criticises Kerry Kennedy’s approach regarding the Western Sahara issue.

Kerry Kennedy and her daughter Maria Cuomo-Kennedy of the Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy Centre (RFKC) for Human Rights visited the Western Sahara to assess the Human Rights situation there. Mr Miniter said that they are naïve liberals and points out the Polisario Front are linked to Al Qaeda and drug smugglers. Morocco is an ally of America in its fight against terrorists and the Polisario issue is being used to undermine Morocco and destabalise the region.

Mr Miniter accuses Kerry Kennedy and her daughter, who visited the Polisario camps, of giving propaganda value to the Polisario  who imprison their own people and their hosts Algeria. He doubts that the men who Kerry Kennedy says aggressed her in Laayoune and attacked her daughter were Moroccan plain close policeman and he suggests her article in the Huffington Post was exaggerated. He says that Kerry Kennedy and the RFKC specialise in attacking human rights abuses by American allies. He acknowledges that  Ms. Kennedy did some good work documenting genuine abuses in Sudan, China and Burma. However she now focuses on America’s allies from the Cold War and the war on terror, Mr Miniter says.

Mr Miniter concludes that he visited the Polisario camps in 2010 and met inhabitants who had been tortured by the Polisario. He met Mohammed Abduaziz who declared  his admiration of totalitarian  regimes. Mr Miniter says Kerry Kennedy should investigate the human rights abuses in Algeria her host, who Mr Miniter says is among the most repressive regimes  in the Arab world after Syria.

Morocco has opened its doors to Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights to visit Sahara to assess the human rights situation on the ground. But Kerry Kennedy did not carry out her noble mission within that professional spirit of neutrality. Her final report is not expected to reflect the real situation of human rights in both sahara and Tindouf camps.Kerry Kennedy has chosen to go beyond its human rights agenda by engaging in partisan political activity on behalf of the pro polisario group.
The Independent Commission For The Defense Of Human Rights in Sahara decided to boycott the meetings of the delegation of the Robert Kennedy Foundation and is expecting the delegation` s final report to hurt the Moroccan territorial integrity and promote a totally negative image of Morocco as a brutal violator of human rights in the region and thus weaken its negotiation power in any upcoming round organized by the UN. The I.C.D.H.W.S `s decision to boycott is due to the blatant bias and prejudices of some members of the Foundation, who chose to side with one camp and adopt a unilateral vision of the situation on the ground, far from objectivity, precisely Kerry Kennedy of the Robert F Kennedy Center and Mary Lawlor, Founder and Executive Director, Front Line Defenders.Their blatant bias and choice to side with the western sahara separatists side and adopt a one sided vision of the situation on the ground is clear in their articles and in their selective approach to meet the components of civil society in sahara.
