The American TV channel Fox News reported that  U.S. President, Barack Obama is preparing to submit to Congress  an arms donation for Tunisia considered one of the largest in volume in the history of the United States to an Arab state. It would include 14 F16 probably from US Airforce stocks and 9 UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters as well as other military equipment.

According to Fox News, it is likely that the U.S. Congress will endorse the presidential  request. This reflects the seriousness of the threat faced by Tunisia from armed terrorist intruders as a number of armed confrontations with police and Tunisian defence forces have occured recently.Panetta urged the Arab Maghreb Union to develop counter terrorism cooperation and to protect their borders.

Foreign ministers of the AMU meeting in Algiers earlier this month agreed on the need to forge an AMU security pact .
