According to the expert, Tewfik Hasni, Algeria must first pass through a model of energy consumption that will determine the share of each energy form, before making a choice.
"In this model, nuclear power may have its share as well as solar and wind," he said at the forum of the daily El Mujahid.
Nuclear power has never been at the forefront of Algeria's energy strategy although it has always been in the background. Following the latest incident in Fukashima in Japan and Germany's subsequent decision not to continue with nuclear power a number of countries are tending to turn away from nuclear energy on the grounds of security and the continuing problem of storing radio active nuclear waste for long periods of time.
"In this model, nuclear power may have its share as well as solar and wind," he said at the forum of the daily El Mujahid.
