It must be said that many Algerians were expecting a low turnout grazing the 80%. Which would have been perceived as a rejection of the regime of President Bouteflika.

For many, the regime has done everything to avoid this mishap.

"The people have found a real challenge," said Interior Minister Ould Kablia, before congratulating them on " a vote of the operation was conducted in a calm and transparency," to foreign observers and representatives of the parties.

"The few recorded problems did not affect the conduct of the voting process," he adds.

According to official results broadcast live on the site of El Watan, on 462 seats, the party in power  the Natioanl Liberation Front (FLN) prevailed widely.

The FLN got 220 seats, the National Democratic Rally (RND) 68, the Green Alliance less than 48, the Socialist Forces Front (FFS) 21, the Workers' Party (PT) 20 seats, the Independents 19 seats, the Front Algerian National (FNA) 9 seats, Adala 7, 6 MPA.

In total, 144 women were elected.

The official results are published but only the accusations of ballot stuffing and fraud are heard.

The Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD) speaks of a participation rate of 18%.

"The turnout, as noted by the municipal committees, however, carefully screened by the administration, has not exceeded 18%," writes the RCD.

It said the vote was characterized by the stuffing of ballot boxes, the busing of fake voters, the falsifying of the turnout and  hurried recounts.

"The  Green Alliance of Algeria", a coalition of Islamist parties also denounced fraud.

"Soldiers have voted en masse for the National Liberation Front (FLN) or the National Democratic Rally (RND)," said Abderrezak Mokri, member of the Islamist coalition.
