Dr. Harold Robles honored in Marrakech,Morocco

Dr. Harold Robles, Founder & President of MKI (Medical Knowledge Institute) was honored on Thursday evening, March 8 in Marrakech/Morocco during the Legacy International’s North Africa Community Health Initiative with the George Washington School of Public Health & Health Services Silver Medallion for his tireless dedication to MKI’s mission, “Prevention through Education” and for his leadership in Public Health.

The Medallion was presented to him by Dr. E. Blaine Parrish, Assistant Professor of the Community-Oriented Primary Care Program and Director of the Graduate Certificate Program in Community-Based Program Management in the Department of Prevention and Community Health at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.

 
"The hard work and dedication of Dr. Robles and MKI are a testament to the determination of all of us in public health. We will not relent until communities are educated to the steps they can take to prevent disease and to prosper under the promise of a competent and accessible health care system."

 
The Medallion will, according to Dr. Parrish recognizes the bond between Dr. Robles and the two organizations, and the potential for collaboration in the future to address public health issues from South Africa to Washington, DC.

 

The Community Health Initiative, a grant of the Department of State to Legacy International with partnerships with Medical Knowledge Institute and Carillion Health Care Systems, is a program to bring young health professionals from Egypt and Morocco as Fellows to the United States and also send a delegation to Egypt and Morocco of American Health Care Professionals.  This program is designed to share the public health education, medical knowledge and systems and other related information that characterizes US Health initiatives and also identify the specific needs and challenges in the respective countries and strive to create a framework for addressing them, beginning with, follow on projects and utilizing the contacts and people that the Fellows have met. 

 

During these events in the US, Dr. Robles’s gave workshops on the philosophy of MKI and the history of creating and sustaining an NGO. His personal history, the history of MKI and its outreach, the topic of fundraising, training of trainers, supplemental projects that empower the women of Southern Africa were the major themes. Dr. Robles’ workshops were received with tremendous appreciation, excitement and resulted in an agreement to pursue a new relationship for public health initiatives between Legacy International, the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services and the Fellows from Morocco and Egypt.
