Algeria’s exports reached US$ 38.82 billion, against US$ 36.75 billion during the same period in 2011, up by 5.62%, said the CNIS.
While imports totalled US$ 23.03 billion, against US$ 24.29 billion during the same period in 2011, down 5.21%, according to CNIS’s temporary figures.
These results showed 169% coverage of imports by exports, against 151% during the same period, said the centre, explaining the rise of trade surplus by a drop in imports combined with an improvement of exports.
Of the total exports, oil accounted for 97.42% with 37.82 billion dollars in the first six months 2012, against 35.67 billion dollars during the same period of 2011, up 6.02%.
The non-hydrocarbon exports are still "marginal" with only 2.58% of the total volume of exports, worth a billion U.S. dollars, thus showing a decline of nearly 7.5% during the first six months of 2012 and over the same period of 2011.
