Algeria reiterates readiness to work with all Malian parties to overcome the crisis

Algeria has reiterated support to Malian authorities and readiness to help all Malian parties overcome the crisis in the country, Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel said Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

"Algeria welcomes the return to constitutional order in Mali, and reiterates support to the Malian authorities and readiness to help all Malian parties, as it did it in the past, to overcome the crisis in the country," Messahel said during a ministerial meeting of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, devoted to the political and security situation in Mali.

The minister also underlined that "Algeria follows with much concern the developments in Mali."

As regards, the recent developments in this country, Messahel emphasized the "need for Malians to carry on the process for the return to the constitutional order, enable the Malian State exercises its prerogatives, encourage dialogue between the Government and rebels in the North in order to meet the legitimate claims of populations living in the region, with the respect of territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the country."

Regarding the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Mali, due to the drought and the armed clashes, the minister said that Algeria has already sent aids to the Malian refugees along the borders between the two countries, and it is preparing, in coordination with United Nations organizations and the Malian government, additional aids for populations in northern Mali and also for the refugees in the south of the country.
